About Me
- Monica Sappleton
- I am a piano teacher with a masters degree in piano pedagogy, and also the founder and director of the school called Piano Adventure School of music. I started the Piano Adventure School of Music in 1989 at a recreational center in Hyattsville, MD. It began as a project which provided extra-curricula arts activities for “At-risk” and economically disadvantaged children and youths within the inner city communities. The initial response was tremendous, and as the demand for the classes rise, we changed our venue, moved away from the recreational center to an atmosphere that is more conducive to learning. Today, twenty two years later; the Piano Adventure School of Music is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit community music school serving many communities in Montgomery and Prince Georges counties MD and the Washington DC metropolitan area. We have several innovative programs which include an annual music and arts enrichment summer camp. It is in this camp that I find the time to write down my thoughts, when the teachers and campers are brainstorming for ideas during poetry time.
